Free Advice: Focus on what you have, not what you don't

If you constantly focus on what you don’t have,
you will never fully appreciate what you do have.

It's true, if you constantly focus on what you don't have, you'll never see what you do have. Think about it:

If someone gave you 3/4 of a wonderfully delicious chocolate cake, and all you could focus on was the fact that you were missing a slice, you would never get to enjoy the rest of the cake.

In this time of recession and cut backs, it's easy to focus on what we don't have. As teachers, our schools are understaffed, we may have to buy a lot of our own school supplies, and in some cases our salaries may have been cut (This happened in my state last school year.)

However, if you look a the big picture, we still have jobs, when unfortunately others do not. And most importantly, we work in a profession where we actually have a purpose, and we have the opportunity to influence young lives every single day.

---I am going to post this quote up in my room, and I am also going do an activity in which I have my students come up with their own quotes. (And I will then post their quotes up in the room as well.)
